Missions Week Prayer Guide
Day 1
Prayer for the believer: God help me to see people as you see them. Give me a fresh burden for those who are lost. I don’t want to stay complacent. I confess there are times I am unmoved and even lazy when it comes to sharing the gospel. Rid me of my selfishness. Change my heart.
Prayer for the Lost: Lord change the hearts of the lost. Prepare their hearts so that they will hear and understand your word, help them to respond humbly. May they see your glory in nature and recognize that all of its beauty and complexity comes from you. May they be drawn to the divine through awe. Help them to see Jesus’s love aright.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Day 2
Prayer for the believer: God thank-you that you have graciously saved my soul. I thank you that I have unlimited access to the Father. Yours is the most important relationship I have. Thank you for your promises in scripture and the hope they bring. You have blessed me beyond all comprehension.
Prayer for the Lost: Lord, remove any false ideas the unbeliever has associated with your character. Help them to see you clearly as they wrestle with the balance of your grace and judgement. Convince them of their need for Jesus.
Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Day 3
Prayer for the believer: Dear Lord, as I seek to intercede for those around me, maintain my heart in a posture of humility. Help me to remember I was also once under condemnation and by no merit of myself have received your salvation. You are all that is good within me. In light of this reality help me to offer forgiveness against any grievance. Even in places of pain stir in me compassion and love for those who have wronged me. Help me to be aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence and work in my life. Convict me of my own sin and forgive me of my daily rebellion. Show me the idols in my own life and grant me the gift if true repentance. I thank you for your steadfast love and long suffering and I ask that you help me to extend the same to those around me.
Prayer for the Lost: Lord, make the unbeliever aware of sin and its consequences. Help them to be honest with themselves and others. May they recognize that nothing else will satisfy the deep longings of their heart. As they acknowledge their sin, make them desperate for you. Make the truths of the Bible real to them. Help them to call out to you and be there for them in their time of need.
2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
Day 4
Prayer for the believer: God, give me courage. Make me bold despite my fears. Grow my faith through witnessing. Help me to be ready in season and out of season. Be my Confidence. As I seek to obey, grow me through discipline and discipleship. Make me willing to address the practical needs of others, unselfishly, when prompted to minister. May I live with an open hand, holding onto nothing. Make me sensitive to the promptings of the Hold Spirit and quick to act.
Prayer for the Lost: Lord, eliminate the distractions of the unbeliever. Deliver then from the love of possessions, and pride. Remove Satan’s influence and deliver them from any strongholds in their life. Help them to see that friendliness with the world is opposition to Christ, that there is no neutral territory. Remove excuses and the lie that our salvation is based in our works.
Matt. 9:37-38
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Day 5 (Block Party)
Prayer for the believer: God, raise up others to come alongside me in community. Help us to represent Christ well. May there be mutual edification and encouragement, respect and brotherly love between us. Increase the workers for the harvest is many. Rid us of all hypocrisy and make us respectable to others.
Prayer for the Lost: Dear Lord, in your mercy, give the lost the time and space they need to consider the claims of the gospel. Remind them of the brevity of life and their own mortality. Give them a sense of urgency. Help them to see with spiritual eyes. Help them to acknowledge their own brokenness and remind them of your love.
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
